C4 goes behind the seams of some of Diana's most iconic dresses

One-off documentary Princess Diana’s Dresses: The Auction visits the world-famous auction house of Kerry Taylor to shed light on the ten couture dresses that inspired a generation before they were sold at auction.

Using archive footage of the princess, Kerry’s expert insight and interviews from the people who knew Diana viewers will come to understand the importance of each individual dress and why they were so key in the princess’ life story.

The programme revisits the late royal’s most unforgettable looks – from her Elizabeth Emmanuel wedding dress and the off-shoulder velvet gown worn when she famously danced with John Travolta, to the striking halter neck black dress captured in by renowned photographer Mario Testino – her outfit choices were responsible for generating an endless stream of iconic images.

The style insiders who knew her best also speak about their relationship with the princess including Vice President and Senior Editor at Condé Nast International, Anna Harvey who was recruited by Lady Diana Spencer to help put together a wardrobe for her new 'royal' life. Plus Diana’s flatmate Virginia Clarke, who hasn't spoken since 1981 about her friendship with Diana, describes the impact that being thrust into the media spotlight had on her friend.

This 1x60 documentary is commissioned by Anna Miralis, Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 who says “Diana was one of the greatest style icons of the 20th Century and her dresses and choice of clothes spoke volumes. For this first time, this film offers a fresh insight into the life of a princess who was so effortless and successful in using fashion as a means of power.”
