Channel 4 has acquired the UK premiere broadcast rights to Mammon, a brand new 6-part drama made in-house by NRK Drama for the NRK channel. Produced by Vegard Stenberg Eriksen the series is based on an original idea by his brother Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, who also wrote the screenplay.
Mammon follows six days in the life of uncompromising journalist, Peter Verås (Jon Øigarden), who works for Norway’s most respected newspaper. In a dense, multi-layered plot reminiscent of All The President’s Men, Verås uncovers evidence of a financial fraud involving Norway’s political and financial elite – evidence that points to his own brother. He makes the fatal decision to pursue the story, which leads to his brother’s suicide. Verås then turns his attention to the anonymous tip that sparked the mystery, only to discover that the source was his brother himself. Bewildered and grief-stricken, Verås presses on – but the closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes for him and his family.
Mammon is an intricate and compelling thriller about greed and the murky underbellies of finance, politics and journalism. It's about who and what you are willing to sacrifice for the big scoop, for power, for money. And it’s about fraternal bonds and what you will do to protect those you care about.
Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt says; “With its compelling blend of political conspiracies and industry intrigue, and its examination of the damaging effects of chasing the story at all costs, Mammon is a complex, gripping and timely drama. We’re thrilled to be bringing it to a UK audience.”
“This deal with Channel 4, known for the high quality of its drama output, confirms what we felt from the moment NRK unveiled Mammon – that this is a brilliant, complex and compelling series with the potential to become a global hit. In Norway, Mammon is attracting huge audiences, pulling in some of NRK's highest ever ratings for a crime series. We have every confidence that UK viewers will respond with equal enthusiasm.” says Espen Huseby, CEO of Nordic World.
Mammon premiered in Norway in January 2014. It comprises 6X60’ episodes and will air on More4 in 2014.
