Channel 4 in advanced negotiations with Glasgow’s The Garment Factory for new Creative Hub
Category: News ReleaseChannel 4 has entered into advanced negotiations with Castleforge Partners to lease just over 4,000 sq ft in The Garment Factory building in Glasgow as its new Creative Hub.
The broadcaster will lease the space on the first floor of the historic building, which has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment, to establish its new Creative Hub – a new base for the broadcaster in the city which will be home to programme commissioners and other Channel 4 roles.
The redeveloped light and modern interior will be used to create an office which reflects Channel 4’s values of innovation, inclusion and creativity – and it will have the ability to host its partners in the production and creative industries.
The Garment Factory is a historic and well-known building in Glasgow situated in the Merchant City Central Conservation Area. Built in 1898, it was originally the garment factory of J & W Campbell, and its recent redevelopment has maintained the original industrial aesthetic of the iconic listed building but introduced modern services and high-quality finishes. The building is already home to a number of creative businesses.
The negotiations are being led by CBRE on behalf of Channel 4. Channel 4 would intend to take up the space in the building from late 2019.
Jonathan Allan, Channel 4’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “We’ve seen a range of incredibly impressive potential options across the city as a home for our new Creative Hub in Glasgow. However, The Garment Factory stood out as an iconic building which would give us the flexibility of space we need and the proximity to other creative businesses and services in Glasgow city centre.”
Alistair Urquhart, Associate Director, CBRE said: “The Garment Factory is a modern and unique building which will provide an ideal fit for Channel 4. Having advised Channel 4 on a series of property related matters we are delighted to be close to securing the first of its regional hubs.”

Notes to editors:
Channel 4 announced in October that it had confirmed that Glasgow would be the location of one of its new Creative Hubs, alongside another in Bristol and Leeds named as a new National HQ. When fully implemented, Channel 4’s 4 All the UK strategy will result in over 300 jobs being created in the Nations & Regions, including key creative decision makers – responsible for commissioning Channel 4 content and programmes from producers right across the UK. The new bases are at the heart of Channel 4’s plan to attract and develop talent from across the UK, both on and off-screen and support the significant increase in the organisation’s Nations & Regions spend on creative content – from 35% to 50% of main channel UK commissions by 2023, worth up to £250m more in total.
