Channel 4 Announces Alex Horne’s Scripted Comedy Series ‘The Horne Section TV Show’
Category: News ReleaseChannel 4 is today announcing the commission of The Horne Section TV Show. The new six-part scripted comedy series is written by and starring Alex Horne (creator of BAFTA and National Comedy Award Winning Taskmaster) and his band, The Horne Section.
The Horne Section TV Show piloted last year and has now been picked up for a series by Channel 4 following multiple appearances on Channel 4’s The Last Leg, and Dictionary Corner on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Away from the screen they host the iTunes chart topping podcast The Horne Section Podcast and three series of Alex Horne Presents The Horne Section on BBC Radio 4. Horne has been working with the band since 2010, when they first performed together at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Separately, members of The Horne Section have performed with recording artists including Robbie Williams, Madness, Florence and the Machine, Amy Winehouse, George Ezra, Basement Jaxx, Disclosure and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Alex Horne said: "I've always thought the title of a show is indicative of the quality of the writing within a show, so "The Horne Section TV Show" looks set to be pretty special. I've known some of these musicians for over forty years and I can safely say that it's very weird that any of them are now going to be in a six-part scripted comedy series on Channel 4."
Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy, Channel 4, commented: “Alex is an extraordinarily talented comic; unique, charming and unpredictable, The Horne Section TV Show is set to mirror all these qualities, with a unique blend of talk show and sitcom, music and mayhem and we can’t wait to share it with the Channel 4 viewers.”
It was commissioned for Channel 4 by Head of Comedy, Fiona McDermott and Commissioning Executive, Joe Hullait. The Executive Producers are Alex Horne, James Taylor, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner for Avalon. The series is produced by Matt Stronge and directed by Barbara Wiltshire. The Horne Section are: Alex Horne (band leader), Joe Auckland (trumpet and banjo), Mark Brown (saxophone and guitar), Will Collier (bass), Ben Reynolds (drums and percussion) and Ed Sheldrake (keyboards).

About The Horne Section
Alex is the creator and frontman of The Horne Section, a six-piece band of multitalented musicians who put a stupidly unique twist to musical comedy. Alex Horne Presents: The Horne Section played to sold-out audiences for five consecutive years at the Edinburgh Fringe, and continued for three series as a BBC Radio 4 show. This led to The Horne Section Podcast, which reached number one in the iTunes charts on the first day of its release and regularly releases new episodes. The band has made several appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Channel 4) and is the only band ever to host Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC2). They are the house band on The Last Leg (Channel 4) and Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer (BBC One), which Alex also co-hosts. They starred in their own one-off special, The Horne Section Television Programme (Dave), in 2018.
