Channel 4 announces brand new scripted comedy series Make That Movie from Sam Campbell

Category: News Release

Production will soon commence on Make That Movie, a new six-part scripted comedy series created by 2022 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Sam Campbell (Taskmaster) and directed by Joe Pelling (Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared).

Make That Movie focuses on a hotshot director, played by stand-up comedian and actor Sam Campbell who scours the country for everyday people who have an idea for a feature film. Sam and his team then race against the clock as they attempt to transform the idea into a film in just three days.

Starring as Sam’s elite crew of filmmakers are: Lara Ricote (2022 Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer, Break Clause) as runner Jess, Aaron Chen (Fisk) as intimacy coordinator Sebastian, Helen Bauer (Am I Being Unreasonable?) as sound engineer Pat, and David Hargreaves (This Country) as cinematographer Winnie.

Sam Campbell says: “It’s a bit like one of those shows where they fix up someone’s garden. But this is about something people genuinely care about – movie magic. Let’s be honest with ourselves, a garden has never grossed over a billion dollars at the box office…”

Charlie Perkins, Head of Comedy Channel 4 says: “Sam epitomises the colour, creativity and innovation that Channel 4 comedy stands for. He has an undeniable, completely unique and enormous comedy brain and is generous and tenacious in his artistry - the perfect figurehead for this new-era comedy gang-show. This is going to be fun.”

Produced by award-winning Blink Industries (Dead End: Paranormal Park, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared), Make That Movie has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Charlie Perkins, Head of Comedy and Joe Hullait, Commissioning Executive. Executive Producers are James Stevenson Bretton, Sam Campbell and Joe Pelling for Blink Industries and the producer is William Kay.

Further casting will be announced in due course alongside transmission details.
