Channel 4 today announced the commission of two brand new comedy drama series, Naked Apes for C4, and a new E4 series Beaver Falls; as part of an extended drama offering in 2011 which will take the Channel's annual commitment to drama past 200 hours in total.

Camilla Campbell, Channel 4's Head of Drama said;

"We're proud of our commitment to supporting the best British talent, backing innovative, contemporary drama, and 2010 has been an exceptional year so far. From Shane Meadows".

This Is England '86, to eagerly awaited new pieces from Ronan Bennett and Peter Kosminsky, Channel 4 continues its tradition of delivering original, bold and entertaining British drama.

With money freed up from the cancellation of Big Brother we are delighted that we are able to follow This Is England '86 with another new drama series for Channel 4, a further series for E4, and more to come throughout 2011. In terms of brand new originated drama, we're on track to more than double our output next year.

With over 200 hours slated, 2011 will be a resurgent year; audiences are going to feel a real increase in drama on Channel 4."

Written by Brian Fillis (The Curse of Steptoe, An Englishman In New York) and produced by Chris Clough and Hal Vogel for Daybreak Pictures (Endgame, Britz), six part Naked Apes is an angular look at the lives, loves, neuroses and mishaps of a bunch of paramedics in Leeds - the people who mop up the mess that we apes leave behind.

This darkly comic drama series follows central characters Stuart, Ashley and Rachid who, behind the uniforms, the sirens, and the incredibly fast driving, are really three ordinary blokes -  mostly just scraping drunks off the pavement, very occasionally saving lives, and always just trying to muddle through their own.

Commissioned for E4, six part series Beaver Falls follows three British chancers, fresh out of university and determined to have one last summer of carefree irresponsibility before they face the real world. The guys have bluffed (well, lied) their way into jobs at Beaver Falls, an elite American summer camp for the ridiculously beautiful teenage offspring of Manhattan's rich and powerful.

The camp is under the impression they've employed three British blue-bloods. Of course the reality is somewhat different...They are actually there for two months of hanging out, getting into mischief, and chasing girls.

Beaver Falls is created by Iain Hollands, produced by Liz Lewin and is exec produced by Charlie Pattinson for Company Pictures (Skins, Shameless).

The two new series will air in summer 2011, and will join Channel 4's rich line up of drama programming for next year; including a spectacular four-part serial from Peter Kosminsky starring Claire Foy and Christian Cooke, The Promise, which follows the story of 18 year old Erin, as she retraces of her grandfather's steps in modern day Israel, while reading his diary entries on life as a British soldier in 1940s Palestine.

Channel 4 will also screen Top Boy, from screenwriter and novelist Ronan Bennett, a four part thriller set on a Hackney estate. Based on extensive meetings and interviews with kids who live in the local area, this serial is an original, entertaining and funny drama about young lives lived on the edge and, for the most part, lived out of sight in east London today.

2011 will also see further series of hit teen drama Skins, the unstoppable Shameless, more BAFTA award winning Misfits, and of course, more from Channel 4's flagship teen soap, Hollyoaks.

Still to air in 2010, Jim Broadbent, Matthew Macfadyen and Sam Clafin take on the lead role of Logan Mountstuart in William Boyd's adaptation of his best-selling novel, Any Human Heart, directed by Michael Samuels.  Told through the intimate journals of a fictional British writer and charting the main events of the Twentieth Century, Any Human Heart is the epic tale of Logan's ordinary and yet utterly extraordinary life. Hayley Atwell, Natasha Little, Emerald Fennell, Ed Stoppard, Samuel West and Kim Cattrall star alongside Gillian Anderson and Tom Hollander as the lovers, wives, friends and infamous figures he encounters along the way.

And everyone's favourite orange jumpsuit-clad ASBO teens return for community service, in a  second series of E4's hit comedy drama Misfits.
