Channel 4 has been announced as an additional media partner for the 23rd staging of the Cartier Racing Awards, renowned as Europe’s top horseracing accolades.

Channel 4 joins The Daily Telegraph and Racing Post in helping to promote the Cartier Racing Awards.

European horseracing’s equivalent of the Oscars will be presented during a glittering ceremony before an invited audience of over 300 at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday, November 12, which will be covered live online and through social media by Channel 4.

Channel 4 will create all on-the-night footage with the eight nomination packages presented and voiced over by Clare Balding, Nick Luck, Mick Fitzgerald, Jim McGrath, Graham Cunningham, Rishi Persad, Emma Spencer and Gina Bryce.  Furthermore, Channel 4 will also film the event for broadcast subsequently and, in the build-up to the 23rd Cartier Racing Awards, highlight the points’ standings.

Promotion will start this Saturday with Channel 4 Racing viewers able to vote online at http://www.channel4.com/play-win/cartier/Live/index.jsp?horses

The Cartier Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. They are determined by points earned by horses in Pattern races throughout 2013, combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph, plus viewers of Channel 4 Racing.

In addition to the eight equine awards, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.

Jamie Aitchison, Channel 4’s Sports Editor, says: “The Cartier Awards are the most prestigious awards in horseracing and it’s great that our dedicated racing viewers now have the chance to vote on the eight awards.  The event will receive significant exposure across our racing outlets and I’m delighted that each filmed nomination will be presented and voiced over by one of our team.”

Arnaud Bamberger, Executive Chairman, Cartier UK, commented: “Channel 4’s involvement is tremendous news for the Cartier Racing Awards which have established themselves as the pre-eminent accolades within European racing.

“I would like to thank Channel 4, which does so much for horseracing, for supporting for the Cartier Racing Awards.”
