Channel 4 has today announced the appointment of Daniel Fromm as Commissioning Editor for Popular Factual.

Daniel joins from RDF Television having worked in the industry for more than 20 years. At RDF his executive producer credits include The Secret Life of 4 & 5 Year Olds; Del Boys and Dealers; and The Making of Me. Previously as a freelance director, he worked on the first series of 999: What’s Your Emergency? and Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

Channel 4’s Deputy Director of Programmes & Head of Popular Factual Kelly Webb-Lamb said: “Daniel is one of the key creative forces behind some of Channel 4’s most successful Popular Factual series. He’s that rare beast in television: a truly entertaining programme-maker, with the ability to make the audience think and laugh at the same time. We’re absolutely delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Daniel has already joined Channel 4 and will be based in Bristol from January 2019.

The announcement comes off the back of other recent creative appointments including: Bristol-based Marble Films and former BBC Documentaries Executive Sacha Mirzoeff as Factual Commissioning Editor and Head of Hub at Bristol (joins in January); Will Rowson, currently executive producer at True Vision (already based in Leeds), and Harjeet Chhokar, as Factual Commissioning Editors (joins Leeds later this year); and Deborah Dunnett who was Channel 4’s Nations and Regions Manager, before being appointed earlier this year as Commissioning Editor, Popular Factual, based in Glasgow.

Channel 4’s 4 All The UK strategy aims to attract and develop talent from across the UK, both on and off-screen, and support the significant increase in the organisation’s Nations & Regions spend on creative content – from 35% to 50% of main channel UK commissions by 2023, worth up to £250m more in total.  When fully implemented, the 4 All the UK strategy will result in over 300 jobs being created in the Nations & Regions.
