Channel 4 appoints Jo Street as Head of Daytime and Head of Hub, Glasgow

Channel 4 has appointed Jo Street as Head of Daytime and Head of Hub, Glasgow

 

Jo will oversee Channel 4’s UK-wide daytime commissioning team and also lead the broadcaster’s new creative hub in Glasgow.

Channel 4’s Deputy Director of Programmes Kelly Webb-Lamb said: “Jo's reputation goes before her - she has an outstanding track record in daytime, popular factual and entertainment programming and is also an ardent advocate of the Nations and Regions. Her energy and vision will play a key role in the success of our commissioning strategy and I also know we're going to have great fun. I am delighted to have her on board.'

The new role comes as part of Channel 4’s 4 All the UK strategy which will see 300 jobs created in the Nations and Regions at new creative hubs in Glasgow and Bristol and at Channel 4’s new National HQ in Leeds.

Jo said: “I have been blessed with a fantastically rewarding and eclectic career at the BBC, working on some of the nation’s most-loved shows, with some of the UK’s most talented and creative people both on and off screen.

“Joining Channel 4 as Head of Daytime and leading its new Glasgow hub is a dream come true. As a passionate advocate for ‘out of London’ commissioning my appointment signals Channel 4’s intent to make it the most relevant, creative and diverse broadcaster in the UK.”

Jo joins from the BBC where she was the Network Commissioning Editor for Entertainment & Daytime as well as commissioning Popular Factual & Features for the Scotland Channel. 

She will report in to Channel 4’s Deputy Director of Programmes Kelly Webb-Lamb and also work closely with the broadcaster’s recently appointed Managing Director of Nations & Regions Sinead Rocks who is leading the delivery of the 4 All the UK strategy and is part of Channel 4’s executive team.

Jo is the latest senior commissioning appointment to its new bases in the Nations & Regions, which has already seen its Head of Drama Caroline Hollick and Head of Sport Pete Andrews take up roles at its National HQ in Leeds.

Most recently Jo has been responsible for series such as The Hit List, I’ll Get This, Who Dares Wins, Homes Under the Hammer, HeadHunters, Eggheads, Antiques Road Trip, Money for Nothing, Impossible, Test Drive, Flour Power, Getting Hitched Asian Style and Rogue to Wrestler.

The role of Head of Daytime was originally advertised as being based in Leeds but as Jo was such an outstanding candidate the position will now be based in Glasgow with Jo overseeing the running of the Scotland-based hub.  A Commissioning Editor, Daytime will also be based in Leeds.
