Channel 4 to broadcast the second and third presidential debates
Category: News ReleaseOn September 26th Donald Trump went head to head with Hillary Clinton in the first of three presidential debates. The historic event was broadcast live by Channel 4 and reached a consolidated audience of just under 200,000, with a peak of 200,000 on the night. Following on from the success of the first debate, Channel 4 will broadcast the second and third presidential debates.
These live broadcast debates follow on from of three Channel 4 films documenting the rise of Donald Trump, from the beginning of the primaries to Republican nomination. Broadcast in 2016 the films together have attracted an audience of over 5.5 million viewers.
Channel 4 Current Affairs Commissioning Editor, George Waldrum said: "This has been a US election like no other with phenomenal public interest. Everyone wants to know if Trump can really pull off a shock victory. We're excited to bring what could be a pivotal moment in both Clinton and Trump's bid to be the next President, to a UK audience. The second debate will take place on Sunday 9th October 9pm US eastern time, Monday 10th October 2am BST and the third debate will take place on Wednesday 19th October 9pm US Eastern Time, Thursday 20th 2am BST. Coverage on Channel 4 will start at 1:30am and include in-depth analysis by Matt Frei before and after the debates.
