Channel 4 clicks with new series of LEGO MASTERS
Category: News Release
Channel 4 has commissioned a second series of LEGO MASTERS from Tuesday’s Child East. The construction competition will return later this year for a five-part series hosted by Melvin Odoom.
The hit series features pairs of amateur LEGO® builders competing against each other in a series of fiendish challenges with access to one million bricks. In each nail-biting programme, the teams who impress the judges most progress to the next round until the finale, where just one pair is named Britain’s best amateur building team.
The competition is truly for LEGO fans of all ages as pairs aged 9 and up aim to wow the judges with their builds. Series Two will be amped up as the pairs will be challenged to bigger and more mischievous tests of skill and ingenuity.
The teams’ creativity, construction skills and their imaginations will be put to the test by lead judge, The LEGO Group’s Matthew Ashton, and this year is joined by new regular judge, scientist and engineer at heart Fran Scott. They’ll team up alongside a host of celebrity guest judges to help whittle down the competition.
In last summer’s debut series, teaching duo and self-confessed “AFOLs” (Adult Fans Of LEGO) Nate and Steve scooped the winners’ trophy after building a life-scale model entitled “Embrace Your Inner Child”.
The series launched in the summer of 2017 wining an average audience of 2 million viewers, and was one of Channel 4’s most popular peak-time series for under-16s last year, with 15% of the audience in the 4-15 age group – the biggest share of young audiences since 2006.
The new 5 x 60’ series is Executive Produced by Steph Harris for Tuesday’s Child East with Ross Curran as Series Producer. The programme has been recommissioned for Channel 4 by Dom Bird, Head of Formats and Kate Maddigan, Formats Commissioning Editor.
Dom Bird, Head of Formats comments: “As one of the most-watched shows by under-16s on Channel 4 last year, we’re delighted to bring LEGO MASTERS back for a new bigger and better series that we hope will again inspire the young and young-at-heart to explore their imaginations like never before.”
Steph Harris, Executive Producer adds: “Series 1 showed us that we could never underestimate the talents of LEGO fans of all ages and we’re looking forward to dazzling viewers with bigger and more ambitious fantastical creations at the hands of our talented teams”.
Pre-production has commenced on Series 2 of LEGO MASTERS, which is planned to air later this year on Channel 4. Viewers can watch the Series 1 box set on All 4.
