Channel 4 commissions Bindis, Bhajis and Brides (W/T)

Channel 4 will be lifting the lid on the larger than life world of UK Asian weddings with a 1X60’ documentary from Shiver following one of Britain’s biggest and busiest wedding planners.

Manchester-based Raj Somaiya and his team regularly put on weddings worthy of a Bollywood blockbuster.  With grooms arriving on horseback or helicopter, 40 dish banquets, DJs and film stars being flown in from Mumbai, guest lists that have reached four figures and budgets that have been known to come close to a staggering £1million.

As well as the eye-popping spectacle of the weddings themselves, the programme will shed new light on modern Britain’s diverse South Asian population , blowing away the stereotypes and generalisations of the past, as we follow Raj and his team’s attempts to create the perfect day for the young couples who are getting married.
