Nineteen11 have been commissioned to produce a 25 x 30’ series for Channel 4 provisionally titled The Wedding Shop.
The series follows multi-award winning bridal and occasion wear designer Ian Stuart and the visitors to his opulent 18th century bridal boutique where bottomless champagne flows and people come to find the dress of their dreams.
Visited by some of the most exacting brides, socialites and celebrities, the Grade One listed, central London destination is a hotspot for the rich and famous, known for iconic and exclusive dress and wedding dress designs.
The series will offer a glimpse into the glamourous world of Ian’s extravagant clientele, his famously flamboyant designs with eye-watering price tags, and the often emotional discussions and decisions that are made when choosing a very special ensemble.
From those attending their very first awards ceremony or in search of a perfect gala gown for the social event of the year, each VIP will visit the shop with their own entourage of mothers, bridesmaids and best friends who will all bring their own set of hopes, expectations and very vocal opinions.
Accompanying Ian throughout the series are his team, Charlotte the style advisor, lederhosen-clad celebrity florist Jens and Craig, Ian’s trainee dresser.
Lee McMurray, Commissioning Editor, Formats, said: "This series will be a fantastic treat for Channel 4 viewers who'll get to enjoy all the glamour and opulence of high-end fashion, share the tears and tantrums of brides picking out the perfect wedding dress, and spend time in the hugely enjoyable company of the eccentric, entertaining cast of characters who man the floor in the boutique."
Brian Hayes, joint CEO, Nineteen11 said, “We look forward to bringing these fantastic characters to a wider audience in a fun and visually stunning way. This series will be a unique look at the wonderful world that Ian Stuart and his team inhabit. Viewers will be treated to a peek behind the curtain of couture, and we’re sure they’ll love what they see, and have a few laughs along the way.”
Joanne Inglott, joint CEO, Nineteen11 added, “Our aim is to make an early evening series that has the depth of character and story and on-screen values of primetime.”
The series has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Commissioning Editor, Formats, Lee McMurrary and Head of Formats, Dom Bird. The Executive Producers for Nineteen11 are Joanne Inglott and Brian Hayes.
