Channel 4 to establish new CMO and MD N&R roles and new centralised communications and planning department led by Chief of Staff Lynette Huntley

Category: News Release

Channel 4 CEO, Alex Mahon today announced two new leadership roles for the organisation – a Chief Marketing Officer and a Managing Director, Nations & Regions – and the establishment of a new centralised department bringing together planning and communications.

The new role of Chief Marketing Officer will lead Channel 4’s marketing strategy across the organisation.  Recruitment for the new CMO will commence in the New Year and both the 4Creative team, led by Head of 4Creative Alice Tonge, and the Marketing team led by Head of Marketing James Walker, will report into this new role.  In the interim both teams will report to Chief Commercial Officer Jonathan Allan, who will take interim executive responsibility for marketing strategy.

A new centralised department, the Office of the CEO, has also been established which will bring together planning and communications and will be led by Chief of Staff, Lynette Huntley – who also reports directly to Alex Mahon.   The Corporate Relations team led by Sophie Jones and the Press & Publicity team led by James MacLeod will both report into Lynette, and the department will also include a new Corporate Planning function led by Sonia Sharma as Corporate Planning and PMO Manager.

The new reporting lines for the marketing and communications teams follow the announcement last week that Dan Brooke, currently Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, will be leaving Channel 4 in early 2019.

In the New Year, Channel 4 will also be recruiting for a Managing Director, Nations & Regions.   This new role, which reports to Chief Commercial Officer Jonathan Allan, will play a critical role in leading the delivery of the 4AlltheUK Nations & Regions strategy.  The MD, N&R role will be based in Channel 4’s new National HQ in Leeds and will lead the establishment of Channel 4’s three new bases – as well as working to develop new relationships and opportunities for collaboration with Nations & Regions producers and stakeholders.  The role will also be a champion for the Nations & Regions across Channel 4 and, alongside the Commissioning team, will work to effectively deliver the significant increase in Channel 4 Nations & Regions commissioning spend as part of the new strategy.
