Channel 4 - Fuel4 Producer Placement Programme

Category: News Release

Channel 4 Online will provide eight paid-for producer placements with four TV companies and four digital companies as part of Fuel 4; Channel 4's year-long programme of events for the creative community announced in December.

Companies can apply from today to take part in the programme which will see a multiplatform executive producer placed into a television production company whilst a TV development producer will be embedded into a digital company. The aim is to encourage companies to develop multiplatform ideas, which will be pitched to Channel 4 at the end of the placements.

Applications are welcome from companies with a proven track record in origination in their field but who are yet to produce content for both TV and digital platforms. They must demonstrate an aspiration to become involved in multiplatform origination and production. The programme is open only to television production companies with network broadcast credits but without existing multiplatform capabilities. Digital company applicants should have neither TV production experience nor a formal relationship with a TV company.

Channel 4 is looking for ideas from any television genre which work across multiple platforms or formats - including television. For example, platforms could include websites, social networks, products and services; devices such as connected TVs, tablets, smart phones; interactive components synchronised with TV; augmented reality or motion sensors. The formats could be content, interactive experiences, games or real world events.

The ideas generated by the producer placements will be owned by the individual companies.

Jen Topping said "There is a huge amount of creative expertise across both the digital and television communities and the purpose of these placements is for Channel 4 to share some of the risk and help break new talent in the multiplatform space. We are hoping that these producer placements will help companies to gain greater knowledge of other creative disciplines as well as come up with new ideas for Channel 4 to commission.
