Channel 4 launches new annual arts lecture

Category: News Release

Channel 4 today announced it is launching a new annual arts event which will mix live performance from upcoming artists with a talk from a high profile figure from the world of arts and culture.

The event, which launches next month (6 June), will see artist Grayson Perry deliver the first talk.

Tabitha Jackson, commissioning editor for arts at Channel 4, said: “This new event is a platform for an established artist be our guide to the world around us.  I want our arts coverage to be the creative expression of us now and Grayson, who uses his art as an almost anthropological guide to contemporary life is a perfect inaugural speaker.”

Last year Perry’s BAFTA nominated series In the Best Possible Taste (Channel 4 2012) explored British tastes and used his discoveries as inspiration for a work of art - The Vanity of Small Differences, a narrative series of six tapestries which was recently acquired for the nation.  Grayson Perry signed a two-year exclusive deal with Channel 4 in 2012.
