Channel 4 moves to Birmingham for call to prayer film

Each morning since the start of Ramadan Channel 4 has been broadcasting the morning call to prayer (Adhan) at around 3am.  The evocative film features muezzin Hassan Rasool walking through the streets of London and singing the Adhan in front of various famous landmarks including Big Ben, The London Eye and Tower Bridge.

Now Channel 4 is launching a new Adhan, featuring landmarks in Birmingham accompanied by the voice of Hassen Rasool.

Note to editors

  • The call to prayer is preceded by Ramadan Reflections, a short film just before sunrise, offering unique insight into what Ramadan means, from 30 different individuals.
  • The call to prayer was first broadcast at 0301 – 0303 on Wednesday 10 July
  • The sunrise call to prayer time changes each day. Channel 4 is using the Unified Prayer Times for London http://archive.eastlondonmosque.org.uk/unified
  • The other four call to prayers autoplay online (www.channel4.com/4ramadan) at the correct time throughout Ramadan
  • On the first day of Ramadan only (Wednesday 10 July) 20 second trails in the ad breaks pointed to the website ahead of the remaining four call to prayers
