Channel 4 today announced it will offer a £25,000 award for the video game competition, Dare to be Digital 2013.

Dare to be Digital is an annual competition for budding games developers run by the University of Abertay Dundee, which this year has seen entries from over 60 universities spanning the globe.

As part of the competition, Channel 4 is donating a £25,000 award together with mentoring support for a single team selected by a panel of judges based on potential and ability to work together.

Colin Macdonald, Games Commissioner at Channel 4 said: “We’re tremendously excited to be involved in Dare to be Digital again. The calibre of the teams and the games just keeps on improving year on year.

“Channel 4 is committed to discovering and developing talent in the UK’s games industry and through this prize, we look forward to working with the next-generation of UK games developers.”

Martin Cosens of Lamplight Studios, winners of last year’s Dare to be Digital 2012 Channel 4 prize said: "Our experience with Channel 4 has been a unique chance to work in a way that would not have been possible without their involvement – with ample advice and assistance, an amazing introduction to the business world and all the connections that Channel 4 brings with it."

Dare to be Digital runs from Monday 10th June 2013 for nine weeks across the summer. The Dare ProtoPlay computer games festival will be open to the public from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th August in Dundee’s Caird Hall where on the final day, the three winning teams will be announced and will automatically become the sole nominees for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award, a category created specifically for this project.
