Channel 4 stable secures 24 Bafta nominations

Category: News Release

This Is England ‘88

Roads around Channel 4's HQ were cordoned off by police this morning, as the massive egos of countless TV executives threatened to spill out onto the street following the announcement of the BAFTA 2012 Television Awards nominations. Heads were swelling to dangerously explosive proportions with the news that the Channel 4 stable had been nominated for 24 awards.

Of particular concern was the drama department, whose cranial expansion was reaching critical proportions following the news that This Is England '88 had been nominated for three awards, while Random and Misfits were both nominated for two each. Top Boy and Shameless were also nominated for awards.

Other programmes to be nominated more than once included comedies Friday Night Dinner and Fresh Meat, and the documentary series Educating Essex.

David Abraham and Jay Hunt were last seen in their wetsuits, grabbing their surfboards and heading off to surf a massive wave of triumphalism.

The Arqiva British Academy Television Awards will take place on Sunday 27 May 2012.
