Channel 4 has been nominated more than any other channel or streamer at this year’s prestigious Edinburgh TV Awards with a record breaking 29 award nominations across 16 different categories.

The impressive spread of nominations includes viewer favourites such as Gogglebox, Married At First Sight and Taskmaster as well as a host of new programmes such as Late Night Lycett, I Am Ruth and Rosie Jones’ Trip Hazard.

Channel 4 has also been nominated for the Best On Demand Service category for its streaming platform, the go-to destination for young people with 85% of the UK’s 16-34-year-olds registered, and it is also nominated for the coveted Channel of the Year award which it won in 2022.

Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer Ian Katz said: “It’s heartening to see so many new shows and new talent being recognised in the nominations for the Edinburgh TV Awards. To have been nominated across comedy, drama, factual, and entertainment categories along with a nod for Channel of the Year is testament to the hard work of everyone here at Channel 4 and the indies we work with the length and breadth of the UK.”

Channel 4’s nominations include four for Best Comedy Series for Derry Girls, Big Boys, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, and for Everyone Else Burns – with Amy James-Kelly’s performance as ‘Rachel’ picking up a second nomination for the 2023 comedy in the Breakthrough Actor category. Hullraisers stars Sinead Matthews (Paula) and Taj Atwal (Rana) also received nominations for the Best TV Actor category.

The hard-hitting, Bafta-winning drama I Am Ruth picked up a total of three award nominations including for Best Drama, with real mother-daughter stars Kate Winslet and Mia Threapleton up for Best TV Actor (Drama) and Breakthrough Actor respectively for their honest and authentic performances in the programme.

The Edinburgh TV Awards are presented annually to recognise and reward outstanding achievement in television. The award categories reflect the remarkable talent, and incredible breadth of creativity that broadcasters, production companies and platforms produce each year.
