Child Genius returns to Channel 4 for third series

Category: News Release

The competition searching for Britain’s brightest child will be back on Channel 4 in 2015 as Child Genius returns with a third series. The programmes will once again follow 20 highly intelligent children as they compete to be crowned the UK’s Child Genius of the Year.

The 5x60’ series, produced by Wall to Wall (Wall to Wall(a Warner Bros. Television Production UK Ltd company), will follow the lives of the children and their families as they progress through the competition, organised in association with British Mensa.

The series will explore the different ways parents bring up their gifted children and how a child handles growing up often feeling different to their peers. Child Genius will capture the families at home as the children prepare to take on their intellectual competitors, and will shine a light on the highs and lows of being one of Britain’s brightest 8 -12 year olds.

Child Genius was commissioned by Channel 4’s Lucy Leveugle, Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor. The series will be executive produced by Wall to Wall’s Mark Saben.

Lucy Leveugle said: “We’re delighted to build on the success of the first two series, in highlighting what it’s like to be considered a gifted child in the UK today. From families who have a study programme for their children, to those whose children’s ability has been recognised but who haven’t yet had a chance to shine, Channel 4 also wants to explore parenting in the modern age.”

Mark Saben added: “It’s been fascinating seeing the different approaches to learning and life from the children and their parents in previous series’. We’re really pleased to continue to work with Mensa as the Child Genius competition celebrates the extraordinary abilities of the competitors. It can be dramatic and tense, but it also provides some really uplifting and funny moments.   We’re excited to discover what this year’s children and families will bring to the competition.
