Dan Brooke, Director of Marketing and Communications

Channel 4 today announces the appointment of Dan Brooke to its executive leadership team in a new role leading all marketing, communications and corporate relations within one integrated group reporting directly to Chief Executive David Abraham.

David Abraham, Channel 4's Chief Executive, said: "In an ever more complex communications and regulatory environment, I believe it is essential for Channel 4 to have a joined up approach to communications across all platforms. Having been the driving force behind the birth of Channel 4's portfolio of digital channels Dan is returning here at the dawn of digital convergence, an era where communication with all of our audiences will be more vital than ever to the success of Channel 4's mission. Over his varied career he has shown an ability to innovate, in both the public service and commercial worlds."

Dan Brooke added: "Progressive cultures, like ours, need independent, iconoclastic forces to help keep them that way. I love Channel 4 and everything it stands for and I look forward to leading its award-winning marketing and communications team through this next exciting chapter of its story."

Rufus Radcliffe, Nick Toon and Jane Fletcher will continue to manage, respectively, the specialist marketing, corporate relations and press and publicity teams and will report to Dan Brooke as part of the new integrated group.

Brooke joins from indie Rare Day, where he was Managing Director, during which time the company won numerous commissions from broadcasters and advertisers. Prior to this he was Managing Director of Discovery Networks UK, leading Discovery's portfolio of channels through a period of change and innovation with the launches of the Discovery HD, Discovery Shed, Discovery Turbo, Investigation Discovery and Discovery Knowledge channels as well as Discovery Mobile and Discovery On Demand. He also led its entry into the Entertainment genre with DMAX and developed the company's first channel on Freeview, Quest.

Brooke worked at Channel 4 from 1998 to 2005, joining as the Head of Marketing & Development for FilmFour, rising to be Managing Director of Digital Channels. He was responsible for the development and award-winning launches of Channel 4's portfolio of digital channels and in 2001 was elected Young Marketer of the Year by the Marketing Society for his role in the birth of E4.

Dan will take up his new post early in 2011 alongside recently appointed Chief Creative Officer, Jay Hunt; Chief Operating Officer, Anne Bulford; Director of Sales, Andy Barnes and Director of Human Resources, Diane Herbert.
