E4 and Film4 continue record-breaking results for Q3 2011

Channel 4 digital channels are going from strength to strength after E4 announced its best quarter ever for young viewers for Q3 2011.

Between July and September, overall 16-34 share increased 6% YoY to 4.86%, maintaining E4's position as the most popular digital channel for 16-34s.

US hit The Big Bang Theory was the top performing programme in Q3, attracting a peak audience of 1.4m.

Long-running teen drama Hollyoaks has continued to grow. Hollyoaks Later averaged 910k viewers and Hollyoaks (first look) attracted an average audience of 642k. The series also saw a 14% increase in share in Q3 2011 compared to Q3 2010.

Following a record-breaking performance in Q2, Film4 today also announced its best quarter ever for Q3 2011.

Film4 pulled in an audience share of 1.65% from June to August - an increase of 23% on last quarter's previous high, taking Channel 4's digital film channel to fifth position in the YTD digital channel ratings.

Across Q3, Film4 reached an average of 24.9m individuals each month - equivalent to 43% of the population, and up 8% on Q2 2011.

August was a record month for Film4, with a 24% increase in share for individuals. August also saw Film4's top-performing day ever for individuals with a 3.20% share, and amongst 16-34s with a 4.7% share - an increase of 27% on the previous record of 3.69% in January 2009.

With four more films attracting over 1m viewers this quarter, over half the films rating over 1m on the Channel have aired in 2011. Of the top 15 digital films screened this quarter, eight of them were transmitted on Film4.

The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Bank Job and Independence Day all attracted over 1m viewers.
