Educating the East End
Category: News ReleaseEpisode 1 - Thursday 4th September, 9pm, Channel 4
Educating is back, and this time we are in the capital at Frederick Bremer School in Walthamstow, East London. Educating the East End captures every detail of life in the school and to kick the series off we are introduced to new Head Teacher Ms Smith, her stellar team of staff and some lively kids.
Mr Bispham is one of the school’s newest teacher; he is eighteen months into his first post as an English teacher and his enthusiasm is infectious. But as Mr Bispham soon learns, teaching is not always plain-sailing especially when it comes to educating Year 9, a year group filled with hormonal 13 and 14 year-olds. Halfway up the school and at a critical academic turning point, it is a year when Frederick Bremer students do some dramatic growing up and often have the worst behaviour in the school.
Tawny, an aspiring actress and singer, is one of the most vocal Year 9s, and is focused on winning a place at the prestigious BRIT school for the Performing Arts & Technology. Unfortunately, she is competing for a coveted place alongside her oldest and best friend Alice.
Being a teenager is hard enough, making and breaking friends, managing the pitfalls of social media, fitting homework in around a social life, but 14 year-old Acacia has other things on her mind. With her mum sick in hospital, it’s a wonder she makes it in to school at all. Deputy Head Emma Hillman realises that Acacia’s outwardly cheerful personality belies a more fragile side so makes it her mission to help her cope with her difficult situation
