Film4-backed 12 Years a Slave wins Golden Globe

Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, backed by Film4, won the Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture (Drama) at last night’s awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, E4 is celebrating after Brooklyn Nine-Nine came away with two Golden Globes. The new series was the winner in the Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy category and actor Andy Samberg won for the Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy category.  The 22-part comedy from Emmy Award-winning writer/producers Dan Goor and Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation), premieres on E4 this Thursday at 9pm and the first episode is available to preview on 4oD now.

12 Years a Slave is Film4’s third collaboration with Steve McQueen following the critically acclaimed Hunger and Shame. The Golden Globe-winning film is nominated for ten BAFTA awards (to be announced on 16th Feb), including in the major award categories of Best Film, Director for Steve McQueen, Leading Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley, Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o and Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender. 12 Years a Slave is released by eOne Entertainment in the UK and is in cinemas now.
