Film4 backed The Favourite leads BAFTA nominations with 12; 21 nominations in total for Film4 and Channel 4

Five Film4 backed films received a total of 20 nominations for the 2019 BAFTA Awards, announced this morning, including 12 for frontrunner THE FAVOURITE.

Director of Film4 Daniel Battsek commented: “Following her Golden Globes success we are delighted that (Queen) Olivia Colman continues to reign supreme. We are thrilled for all 20 Film4 nominations and very proud that The Favourite leads the way. Thank you BAFTA!”

Following her Golden Globe success at the weekend, THE FAVOURITE’s Olivia Colman was nominated for Leading Actress, with co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz nominated for Supporting Actress.  The film is nominated for Best Film and Outstanding British Film, with Yorgos Lanthimos also picking up a nomination for Director. Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara were nominated for Original Screenplay, and the film picked up further nominations in Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design and Make Up & Hair categories.

COLD WAR received four nominations – Film Not in the English Language, Original Screenplay and Director for Pawel Pawlikowski, as well as Cinematography.

Viola Davis was nominated as Leading Actress for WIDOWS.

YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE also picked up one nomination, for Outstanding British Film.

And BEAST, whose producer Lauren Dark joined the Film4 team as Commissioning Exec in 2018, was nominated for Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

Channel 4 coproduction THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS also picked up a nomination in the Documentary category.
