Film4 clocks up 25 BIFA nominations

Film4-backed films have received a total of 25 nominations for this year's British Independent Film Awards, the annual honours which celebrate independently-funded British films and emerging talent. 

Peter Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio and Ben Wheatley's Sightseers picked up seven nominations each, whilst Bart Layton's debut feature documentary The Imposter has six nominations, including Best Film and Best Director for each.  Phyllida Lloyd's The Iron Lady and Carol Morley's Dreams of a Life garnered two nominations apiece, whilst Hyde Park on Hudson picked up a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Olivia Colman.

Tessa Ross, Channel 4 Controller of Film and Drama, says: "We're immensely proud that the incredible achievements of these filmmakers have been recognised by the BIFAs. The nominations are testament to the hugely exciting talent and distinctive voices behind these films, and are reflective of a very vibrant time for British independent filmmaking - as well as the brilliant energy that Katherine Butler has put behind our lower budget work at Film4. We wish all the nominees the best of luck on the night."
