Film4 launches iPad app celebrating 30 years of British filmmaking
Category: News ReleaseFilm4 celebrates 30 years of British filmmaking in Film4 at 30, a brand new iPad app bringing together details on over 500 films supported by Channel 4's film arm since its launch in 1982.
A comprehensive and beautifully visual interactive timeline of some of the best-loved and most acclaimed British films from the past 30 years, Film4 at 30 allows film fans to rediscover great films they know and discover great films they don't, with users able to browse titles and view trailers, images, posters, Q&As and film info, as well writer, director and actor video interviews, many of which are exclusive to Film4.
Channel 4 was the first UK broadcaster, through its film arm Film on Four (now known simply as Film4), to develop and co-finance films and, crucially, to allow these films to play in cinemas before their television transmission on Channel4. Since then, Film4 has worked with some of the most creative and exciting voices in British film, from the early films of Stephen Frears, Derek Jarman, Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Alan Clarke, Neil Jordan, Mike Leigh and Terence Davies, to more recent collaborations with some of these directors and also with the likes of Danny Boyle, Michael Winterbottom, Shane Meadows, Kevin Macdonald, Phyllida Lloyd, Sophie Fiennes, Roger Michell, Jonathan Glazer, Jeremy Lovering, Martin McDonagh, Richard Ayoade, Paddy Considine, Ben Wheatley, Peter Strickland and Bart Layton.
Film4 at 30 not only marks Film4's anniversary, it also stands as a proud testament to the rich and enduring legacy of British filmmaking over the past three decades.
Film4 celebrates its 30th anniversary in November. Film4 at 30 can be downloaded from the iTunes store.
