Film4 picks up 28 nominations for the British Independent Film Awards

Film4 has received a total of 28 nominations for its films for this year's British Independent Film Awards, the annual ceremony that recognises the best of home-grown filmmaking talent.

Steve McQueen's Shame and Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur  have each received seven nominations, Ben Wheatley's Kill List has six nominations, Richard Ayoade's Submarine five nominations, Joe Cornish's Attack the Block has two and Martina Amati's Chalk is nominated for Best Short Film. 

Tessa Ross, Channel 4 Controller of film and drama, says: "We're delighted to have supported so many of the nominated films and filmmakers in what has been a really very strong year for British film.   A major part of Film4's work lies in finding and nurturing distinctive talent and helping to give voice to their unique visions - we're thrilled to see these wonderful filmmakers recognised."  

The winners of the British Independent Film Awards will be announced on Sunday 4th December at Old Billingsgate in London.
