The Look of Love

Five Film4-backed films have been selected to play at this year's Sundance film festival - three of which will receive their world premieres.

Michael Winterbottom's The Look of Love, which stars Steve Coogan as Soho porn baron Paul Raymond, has its world premiere in the Premieres strand, with Jeremy Lovering's debut feature In Fear world premiering in the Midnight Movie section.

Kibwe Tavares' animation short Jonah receives its world premiere in the Shorts Competition, alongside Fyzal Boulifa's BAFTA-nominated short film The Curse.

Ben Wheatley's Sightseers, released in the UK last November to critical acclaim, is screening in the Spotlight strand.

BRITDOC-backed documentary Who is Dayani Cristal has also been selected to premiere in the World Documentary section.

Sundance kicks off today (Thursday 17th January) and runs until 27th January - follow the updates from snowy Utah from the filmmakers and Film4's Katherine Butler on the Film4 blog (http://blog.film4.com/).

The Look of Love, dir. Michael Winterbottom (Premieres)

Steve Coogan stars in the true-life story of Paul Raymond, the man behind Soho's notorious Raymond Revue Bar and Men Only magazine. In this latter-day King Midas story, Raymond becomes one of the richest men in Britain - at the cost of losing those closest to him

In Fear, dir. Jeremy Lovering (Midnight)

Driving, lost and tormented in the night, primal fears of the dark and the unknown give way to fear that you have let the evil in, or that it is already there.

Jonah, dir. Kibwe Tivares (Shorts Competition)

When two young men photograph a gigantic fish leaping from the sea, their small town becomes a tourist attraction in this story about the old and the new.

The Curse, dir. Fyzal Boulifa (Shorts Competition)

The Curse is a stark fairytale unfolding in the desolate Moroccan countryside. When Fatine's secret is discovered by a group of local kids who threaten to tell the whole village, she must go to increasingly absurd lengths to stop them.

Who is Dayani Cristal, dir. Marc Silver (World Documentary)
An anonymous body in the Arizona desert sparks the beginning of a real-life human drama. The search for identity leads us back across a continent to seek out the people left behind and the meaning of a mysterious tattoo.

Sightseers, dir. Ben Wheatley (Spotlight)
Chris (Steve Oram) wants to show Tina (Alice Lowe) his world and he wants to do it his way - on a journey through the British Isles in his beloved Abbey Oxford Caravan. Tina's led a sheltered life and there are things that Chris needs her to see - the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Keswick Pencil Museum and the rolling countryside that accompanies these wonders in his life. But it doesn't take long for the dream to fade. Litterbugs, noisy teenagers and pre-booked caravan sites, not to mention Tina's meddling mother, soon conspire to shatter Chris's dreams and send him, and anyone who rubs him up the wrong way, over a very jagged edge...
