Category: News Release

AGE: 24

FROM: Orpington, Kent

LIVING: In New York for five years, currently residing in Manhattan

OCCUPATION: Creative Co-ordinator

RELATIONSHIPS STATUS: Single

BACKGROUND:

Originally from Kent, Georgina has been living in New York for five years. She moved over by herself for university and studied Design & Management at Parsons School of Design.

When she moved to NYC she was told by a mutual friend to look up a girl called Sophie Pape, she did and they became best friends.

Georgina is always immaculately dressed and takes real pride in her appearance. She’s not one to mince her words. She says exactly what she thinks, a process which her friends call ‘The Hurricane’ but there’s a real humour to the way in which she delivers her opinion.

CAREER:

Georgina is desperate to get herself established on the career ladder and use her degree, however she’s had a few false starts which have been devastating as her visa, and critically her stay in NYC, rely on her being able to secure and hold down a full time job.

LOVE LIFE:

She’s had on/off relationships in the past but is currently single…

Q&A WITH GEORGINA

What made you decide to move to New York?

After I finished sixth form, I was so unsure of what I wanted to study at University, and where I wanted to go. I took my gap year, as a ski instructor and then did some voluntary marine conservation work. During that time I sat the SAT exams which are needed to apply for University in the states. My good school friend had moved to New York during my gap year, I came to visit her during my University tours and I had my heart set on New York, thankfully I got into a school here, Parsons School of Design. I prefer the structure of University in the states and its strict attendance policy, so you actually value your time there, and have the flexibility to change majors in up to your third year.

What do you miss most from home and what are the best and worst things about living in New York?

I miss my horse terribly! I also miss Marks and Spencer's, and English chocolate. I miss being able to go shopping in London with my mum too, she's the best to shop with!

The best thing about New York, is that taxis are cheaper than London! I love the restaurants, some of the food here is just unbelievable and New York has some amazing prohibition era bars. I love how if you venture about an hour out of the city it's almost a different world, you're taken out of the NY bubble and plopped in a different atmosphere. I am really into my music too, so it's nice to have all the top DJs coming in and out of NY regularly playing at some of the top spots. There's always a new place to discover, it's a constantly developing city, it really is the city that never sleeps.

The worst about New York, probably how impossible it is to grab a taxi between 4-5 and 9-11!!! Hundreds of taxis on the road, and all seem to be off duty!! Oh and the chocolate is rubbish here, and the bread. Every city has its bad points, but it just depends on the day as to what has gone wrong.

Which of the cast do you fancy the most?

They're all good looking! I mean, all the guys are models, would be strange if I said none of them were attractive. I am partial to a bit of Ben though.

You and Sophie Pape are apparently particularly close, what’s your friendship like?

We have a very sisterly relationship. She has been a very close friend of mine for a few years now. Sophie and I have our fights, but we know in a few weeks it'll be okay, although our most recent fight was our worst, there have been a lot of changes for us both. The show has helped bring us even closer! I love her as I would a sister, she's got a heart of gold, she's protective in all the right ways, and has very good intentions in helping my career path. I just hope I give enough to her!
