This new series on E4 sees the country's top hairstylists compete in a cut throat competition to be crowned the Great British Hairdresser by James Brown.

Stylist to the stars Brown will be joined by Jo Elvin, the Editor of Glamour Magazine, as they whittle away the contestants through a series of fashion-based weekly challenges. Model Abbey Clancy co-presents and is with contestants every step of the way as they battle it out to win the dream assignment - styling the hair of an A-list star for the cover of Glamour Magazine.

From creating styles to complement Lily Allen's new vintage fashion collection

to working against the super-fast deadlines of London Fashion Week; and battling it out in Las Vegas and with Hollywood beckoning at semi-final stage - there is no tougher hair competition.

To pile on the pressure further, James and Jo invite their celebrity friends along to help. Watch out for Lily Allen, Dannii Minogue, Jaime Winstone, Sadie Frost, The Saturdays and Vidal Sassoon.

Every show is also packed with James' hair tips and trade secrets so that we can all achieve the signature hairstyles made famous by the likes of Kate Moss, Cheryl Cole, and Brigitte Bardot.

In tonight's opening episode, James presides over mass regional auditions in London and Manchester for the hundreds of stylists who applied to compete. Each is given the image of a top celebrity for inspiration, and a mere thirty minutes to complete and create their own unique look. By the afternoon the initial selection has whittled down contenders to a mere thirty-two stylists who, for the second time in one day, are faced with another challenge to their imagination and dexterity. Only those who successfully leap both hurdles are guaranteed to progress to the next stage and move a step closer to their dream.
