Channel 4 today announced the appointment of Hamish Mykura as Head of More4.
Mykura, who was appointed Head of Documentaries at Channel 4 earlier this year, adds More4 to his portfolio and will be responsible for both areas. He replaces Peter Dale who quit the Channel last week to return to filmmaking.
As Head of Documentaries, Mykura oversees Channel 4's flagship documentary strand Cutting Edge which has just finished its current run with ratings 57% up on last year. In addition, he will now take responsibility for all More4's output, including the acclaimed True Stories documentary strand.
He will report to Kevin Lygo, Director of Television and Content.
Lygo said, "Through its close association with the British Documentary Film Foundation, More4 champions original documentaries from around the world and so I am delighted that Hamish will be bringing his expertise in this area to the channel."
Mykura joins More4 at a time when the channel is in rude health with year to date share of viewing up 36% on last year.
Forthcoming True Stories include Kubrick's Cubes in which Jon Ronson examines Stanley Kubrick's private archive for clues to the great director, Walter Salles' affectionate study of tango in Argentina, Café de los Maestros, and Brian Woods' Chosen, a blistering exposé of child abuse at a British public school.
Mykura has been responsible for some of the most high-profile and critically-acclaimed Channel 4 programmes of recent times including Diana: The Witnesses in the Tunnel, The Human Footprint, Richard Dawkins's Enemies of Reason, Georgian crime series City of Vice and feature-length historical drama The Relief of Belsen, which won a Broadcast Award for Best Single Drama.
Hamish Mykura joined Channel 4 in 2001 as Commissioning Editor, History, becoming Head of History in 2003 and subsequently Head of Specialist Factual. He has been responsible for a range of award-winning programmes including Bafta-winner Nuremberg: Goering's Last Stand and 9/11: The Falling Man.
Before joining Channel 4, Mykura was Head of Programmes at Blakeway Productions. He has also been a series producer at Mentorn and worked for 10 years at the BBC.
