Hollyoaks: Who Shot Mercedes? Breda | The Serial-Killer Mother-In-Law
Category: Press Pack ArticleHow much fun is it to play a ‘villainous’ character like Breda?
It’s so much fun, honestly it’s therapy for me – I should be paying them, but don’t tell anyone I said that! I love going round killing men that deserve it [laughs], I think it’s the role I was born to play. It’s the agony and ecstasy of it, it’s hard work but I read the scripts and really look forward to doing it. I enjoy the writing for Breda a lot, it’s all fun and it’s all agony [laughs].
How surprised were you about the reaction to Breda ‘killing’ Tony?
I was surprised actually but I shouldn’t have been because Tony’s such a beloved character, I really shouldn’t have been but we’re so busy every day that I forget people are watching it so I was really surprised. I think Daikin Marsh is a brilliant director, I’ve worked with him before and I think he’s exceptional and I think the whole thing was done really, really well.
Did you get much reaction from angry fans?
Not in the street or anything, people were really kind to me in the street, but every now and again I have a little look at Twitter because I’m not a big Twitter-er! I only post every now and again, so I don’t really do it, but every now and again I have a look and I am shocked. But I’m an old lady, it’s a different World now-a-days but you think “oh my goodness, I’m only doing a job” but people are fuming with me, but I guess that’s part of the fun isn’t it.
We’ve just found out that Hollyoaks Later is coming back and will focus on your character, how excited are you about this?
Terribly excited about doing Hollyoaks Later. I think it’s safe to say that this will put Tarantino to shame! It’s going to make Tarantino look like the Magic Roundabout, if any of you remember that. Let’s say it’s going to be pretty full on – it’s all about Breda, rightly so! It’s been about five years since Hollyoaks has done this and Hollyoaks always pushes the boundaries anyway, but the boundaries are pushed even further, further, further… It’s a great honour.
