iTunes award for Unreported World

Category: News Release

Channel 4's Unreported World has won the iTunes Rewind 2011 best ‘New News & Politics Podcast'.

Unreported World is Channel 4's critically acclaimed foreign affairs series offering an insight into the lives of people in some of the most neglected parts of the planet.

Since the launch of the free Unreported World podcast, back in March, the series has regularly topped the iTunes News & Politics podcast charts with a wide range of investigations including: leprosy in India; the use of black magic in human trafficking in Nigeria; the plight of child prisoners in Burundi; and an undercover investigation in some of the most dangerous parts of Syria.

Rewind 2011, is an official retrospective of the best digital content of the year on iTunes with categories in music, apps, podcast, TV shows, and audiobooks.

The Unreported World podcast was up against some stiff competition from the likes of BBC Radio 4 and The Economist.

In 2011 Unreported World became the first Channel 4 series to have its geo-blocking lifted on the catch-up service 4 On Demand (4oD) - making it available to view online free of charge around the world.

The award winning Unreported World podcast is commissioned by Channel 4 Online and produced by Quicksilver Media in collaboration with multiplatform company Pixiu.

Vicky Taylor, Commissioning Editor New Media; News and Current Affairs at Channel 4 News says: "We are very proud of Unreported World, and anything we can do to expose a wider audience to these amazing stories from all over the world is fantastic.  We know people are consuming media in many different ways and on different platforms, and we have been really pleased with how the audio podcasts have brought in new audiences, who may not have discovered it as a linear television programme."

Alex Feldman,   Creative director at Pixiu says: "The Unreported World podcast has given us the opportunity to make this great series even more accessible to a worldwide online audience and we're delighted to be included on this prestigious list"
