In each episode Jamie will show that, with clever skills and a bit of know-how, viewers can serve up inspiring, tasty and nutritious meals no matter what their budget.
With the average UK household spending £2,467 a year on takeaways, Jamie hopes to prove that it’s possible to have your favourite dishes for far less dosh with a bit of clever shopping and some kitchen skills. Jamie will also tackle food waste and demonstrate how a little imagination can turn leftovers into tasty meals. Jamie will also go inside families’ fridges, to find out where food is being wasted and show ways to help prolong the life of food and save the pennies.
Jamie’s Money Saving Meals (w/t) was commissioned by Head of Features, Gill Wilson, and Commissioning Editor, Nick Hornby. It will be made by Fresh One Productions and executive produced by Zoe Collins and series produced by Emily Kennedy. The series will air on Channel 4 in autumn.
Nick Hornby said: “Jamie’s never shared the money saving secrets of the restaurant trade before, and we love the ambition of making a show that’s jam packed with mouth-watering recipes and clever tricks that also cost viewers less.”
Jamie said: “This year I’ve got the message loud and clear that as everyone comes under bigger and bigger financial pressure, they want help to cook tasty, nutritious food on a budget – so the book and series were born completely out of public demand. Our biggest luxury is knowledge, whether times are hard or not, so get kitchen smart and smash the recession.”
The series will be broadcast later this year alongside a book, Save with Jamie: Shop Smart, Cook Clever, Waste Less published by Penguin,
