Kate Thomas joins Channel 4 Daytime commissioning team
Category: News ReleaseHead of Daytime, David Sayer, has appointed Kate Thomas to the role of Commissioning Editor, Daytime. Kate joins in February.
Previously Creative Director at Welsh indie Boom, Kate looked after winning new network commissions across multiple genres, including factual for ITV and the BBC, kids for CITV and drama for Channel 5. Prior to joining Boom, Kate was Head of Development, BBC.
David Sayer commented: “Kate brings a wealth of experience coupled with a genuine passion for daytime programming and a real knowledge of how the indie sector works outside London. I look forward to working with her, especially on expanding our output in the nations and regions.”
Kate Thomas added: “After a fantastic time at Boom in Wales, I simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to join David Sayer’s team at Channel 4, and I cannot wait to get cracking on hunting out the biggest and boldest ideas out there.
“I have always lived and worked across Bristol and Wales, and I am a passionate advocate of the Nations and Regions, so I am very excited indeed to be joining Channel 4 at the outset of this truly bold new era.”
During her stint at BBC Popular Factual (now ‘Unscripted Productions’), Kate secured multiple commissions for high volume series made out of BBC Bristol and BBC Wales. These included Wanted in Paradise and Antiques Roadshow Detectives for BBC Two, Glorious Gardens from Above and Fugitives for BBC One. Kate also developed returning series The People Remember, Countryfile Diaries and Street Auction for BBC One daytime.
