Lee and Dean Lingo

‘The Nidge’

AKA Steve’nidge, ‘Saint Evanage’, Stevonshire, Lee and Dean’s hometown of Stevenage could be seen as just a mass of new-town concrete, roundabouts and retail parks. But it’s much more than that – it’s their home, they’ll always stick up for it, and – most importantly - it’s much better than Luton. Stevenage could have Luton any day of the week.

Job rate/day rate

A useful tip for any other building firms out there – DeanLee Construction Solution’s always uses this handy tool for estimates – job rate = big brush, day rate = little brush. They don’t teach you THAT on a City & Guilds.

Shit

As in ‘Mix that shit’/’pull a load of shit up there’/’shit, shit, baton, shit’ – ‘shit’ is the general term given to any building material that you can’t be bothered to use the real name for. Or that you don’t know the real name for.

Bantz

Although widely used by many so-called ‘lads’, ‘bantz’ is a term that can be applied to any human interaction, from playful piss-taking to full car-park hand-to-hand combat.

‘Tube-it’

As with most things in life, complicated engineering and building procedures needn’t be studied for months or years in a college environment – most techniques can now be learnt quickly and effectively by watching YouTube (or ‘Tubing it’). This can help save time and keep costs down.

Client-facing

The extra special effort we put in when we’re talking to a client. It generally means we wear a clean top (with top button done up), trousers with no holes in, and have a ‘courtesy spray’ of Lynx Africa in the van.

‘Hold the Odds’

As in, 'I’ll have a monkey on no.3, hold the odds'. Not absolutely sure what it means, but it makes you sound like you know what you’re talking about at the dogtrack.

Site Wear

Generally, whatever you took off yesterday. Plus a high-vis vest.

Twist’n’burn

A specialist bark-rubbing technique, pioneered by legendary veteran ‘rubber’ Derek Steps. Not recommended for novices.

Loosener/livener

First drink of the afternoon.

Turn-out

A poo.

Nut

Your head. Or a nut (as in pea/wal/ginger etc.)
