Markle Mania comes to Channel 4

Category: News Release

Channel 4 has commissioned Monkey, a NBCUniversal International Studios company, to produce a one-off programme, Markle Mania (w/t).

The programme will follow ‘Chicken Shop Date’ online sensation, Amelia Dimoldenberg, as she travels to the United States to explore the Royal Wedding frenzy surrounding the upcoming nuptials of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

In this celebratory one-off episode, Amelia will attempt to get herself an invitation to the wedding by working her way into the Markle clan. She will take viewers across America as she tracks down significant people from Meghan’s past and meets members of her extended family. At its heart, the wedding is a story of two people in love, but this particular union allows Amelia to explore a wide range of subjects and will also pose the question… what do the American’s really think of Meghan joining the Royal Family?

Ros Coward, Executive Producer at Monkey says: “We’re thrilled to be working with Amelia, who is a really exciting new comedy talent. Her journey through the States provides a sideways look at Meghan, her family and the country she is leaving behind for a life as a royal.”

Amelia Dimoldenberg says: “Exploring Meghan Markle’s America was a crazy journey for me. This is my first documentary for TV and I wasn’t sure how the Americans would take my style of humour. But I met some extraordinary people who welcomed me with open arms and strangely enough, now I feel like I almost know Meghan... so where’s my invite?”

Markle Mania (1x60’) was commissioned by Head of Formats, Dom Bird and Jonny Rothery, Commissioning Editor for Formats at Channel 4. It is a Monkey production and the Executive Producers are David Granger and Ros Coward.
