Calvin Demba plays Jay

How would you describe Jay?

I’d like to think he’s quite unpredictable, he’s not necessarily a bad person or malicious. However, he does things out of instinct and sometimes he doesn’t think about other people, their opinions or how that might affect their lives. He’s a nice guy, quite charismatic, I’d like to believe he’s quite funny, but sometimes he just gets it wrong and when he gets it wrong he suffers the consequences.

How are you different from Jay?

I’m not an MC like Jay is, I’m a little bit more reserved , I’m not as outgoing as Jay is in the sense of his personality is quite big and live. I can be myself, but I’m a bit more reserved and keep myself to myself unlike Jay who is sort of like the local lad in the estate.

Tell us about grime?

Well in the grime scene, D Double E was a big influence for me. I used to like Griminal MC, but he’s more into the UK rap now. I like Benny Banks, K Koke, Joe Black, Squeaks. I quite rate the North London lot. Wiley is a big influence to the whole game of music.
