Category: News ReleaseFrom the 28th January over four consecutive weekends, The Million Pound Drop Live returns for 8 brand new episodes on Fridays and Saturdays. Remarkable Television, an Endemol company will produce the new series of the high jeopardy interactive game show where contestants play for a million pounds live on Channel 4.
Davina McCall will be at the helm once again playing quiz master as the hopeful contestants embark on the ultimate high-stakes game.
The aim of the game is simple, contestants are given a million pounds in cash at the top of the show, all they have to do is keep hold of it! Only eight questions stand between them and a life-changing amount of money, but this is not easy when the game is played out on The Million Pound Drop - a fiendish device with four trapdoors, on which the answers to each question are displayed. Contestants could walk away with one million pounds, but one wrong move could literally see thousands of pounds drop through the floor. Can they stop the drop?
Over Christmas we saw a big win, as couple Anita and Rajan won £50,000 before Rajan proposed to Anita live on-air! Will our next group of hopefuls fare as well?
This series will continue to build on the success of the hugely popular play-along online game that allows viewers at home to play alongside the contestants with virtual money. In the second series, a staggering 1.1 million people played along live with the show.
During the Christmas shows, the official hashtag #millionpounddrop trended number one in the UK and there are currently over 10,000 followers on the official twitter site. The show also has over 165,000 Facebook fans.
So far on the show, celebrity pairs playing for charity have included Jimmy Carr and Johnny Vaughan, Emma Bunton and Jade Jones, and Janet and Sophie Ellis Bexter but only George and Larry Lamb have managed to beat The Million Pound Drop.
The series was ordered by entertainment commissioner Syeda Irtizaali and will be executive produced by David Flynn and Nic McNeilis. Michelle Woods is series producer.
