The Million Pound Drop Live returns for new 12 part run

Category: News Release

The Million Pound Drop Live is set to return for a brand new 12 part run, with a series opener featuring some very special celebrity guests to kick of the series.

Freddie and Rachel Flintoff will be playing The Million Pound Drop Live for their charity, The AF Foundation, next Friday, 22nd April at 10pm on Channel 4.

In The Million Pound Drop Live, contestants receive given one million pounds at the top of the show, and battle to hold onto it as they attempt to answer a series of multiple choice questions. Players have to try and keep hold of their money by correctly placing their winnings on the trapdoor displaying the right answer. If the answer is wrong however, their money falls through the door and is lost forever.

The on air series will once again be complemented by the hit online Play Along game which allows viewers at home to see if they can do better than the players in studio with virtual money. Since its launch in May 2010 the format has generated 4.2 million online players globally. Plus, for the first time ever, in this series one lucky player who manages to beat the Drop online will be invited to play for real with Davina live on Channel 4.

The Commissioning Editor for the Million Pound Drop Live is Syeda Irtizaali, the Multi Platform Commissioner is Jody Smith.

Syeda Irtizaali said, ‘The Million Pound Drop Live is a brilliantly intuitive two screen entertainment format, and we're delighted to be bringing three more series to Channel 4. The nail biting on-air action works seamlessly with the web based game, transforming a passive viewing experience into an active one, allowing viewers to play along and have their actions feed directly into the live programme, making for a totally gripping game show. ‘
