More Sex Please, We're British
Category: News ReleaseThe UK sex toy market is worth an estimated £250 million, and with retailers such as Boots, Tesco and Superdrug now stocking erotic toys, this market is destined to grow and grow.
More Sex Please, We're British goes behind the scenes of one of the UK's most successful online sex toy businesses - Lovehoney, a thriving international operation that brings sexual pleasure to the women and men of Britain through the click of a button. They reckon that nearly half of the nation now owns a sex toy.
Founded in 2002 by Neal Slateford and Richard Longhurst, Lovehoney has seen its sales increase each year to £16millon. This programme meets the people working behind the scenes in the HQ in Bath - a 70 strong crack-team of ‘sexperts' who pick, pack and post more than 11,000 parcels a week - from adult toys and sexy lingerie, to erotic literature and games - and pride themselves in bringing sexual happiness to the nation.
There's Andrea and Roy in the returns department who have to deal with the 150 - 200 items that are returned each day, often because what's been bought is too big; Annabelle, the company's resident online presenter and wannabe TV ‘sexpert'; king of figures Matt in online sales; and finally call centre operator Laura, whose excellent customer care sometimes proves too popular with customers on the other end of the phone line.
The team know exactly what goes on in the bedrooms of Britain. We'll hear their stories - the good, the bad and the plain old ugly - and learn how they balance work and family life.
As Neal and Richard prepare to take the company on its first steps onto the high street - revamping the upscale but failing Coco de Mer erotic shop in London's Covent Garden - and break the USA, we will see how the employees cope with the sudden peak in sales during this new stage. As well as the launch in the next big thing in sex toys, the Happy Rabbit, during their busiest time of the year - Valentines Day.
Funny, frank and a little naughty, this one off documentary will shed a new light on the sex lives of Britain and those who help it happen.
