More4 has secured the U.K. broadcast rights to hit U.S. TV series The Big C starring three-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner Laura Linney, in a deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT).  The announcement was made today by Acting Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4, Penny Harris, and Danny Goldman, Senior Vice President, Sales, SPT.

Created by Darlene Hunt (Good Morning, Miami and Will & Grace) and featuring a talented, established cast, the 13 x 30 series follows a reserved suburban wife and mother, Cathy Jamison (Laura Linney), who is diagnosed with terminal cancer.  Vowing to dramatically shake up her life and tired of being the sensible, predictable one, Cathy explores living life with the ‘big C'.

Danny Goldman said: We are delighted that The Big C will air on More4, one of the country's primary homes for U.S. drama.  The show features top quality acting talent from the U.S. and the U.K. and superbly handles a difficult subject in a comedic, yet sensitive way which we know more4 viewers will love.

Penny Harris said: The Big C is a stand out series that thoroughly deserves the praise and critical acclaim it is already enjoying in the U.S.  Laura Linney gives a phenomenal performance as Cathy and is supported by an exceptional ensemble cast. I'm thrilled that this funny and compelling show will make its U.K. debut on more4 and I look forward to working alongside SPT on the launch.

The Big C will make its U.K. debut on more4 in February 2011.  In the U.S., the series premiered on Showtime on 16th August 2010 and is currently running in a 10.30pm slot ET/PT. Creator Darlene Hunt serves as executive producer alongside series star Laura Linney; Jenny Bicks (Seinfeld, Sex And The City); Neil H. Moritz (Prison Break); and Vivian Cannon (Tell Me You Love Me).  The SPT series stars a talented cast including the aforementioned Laura Linney, Oliver Platt (2012, Casanova), John Benjamin Hickey (Flags of Our Fathers), Phyllis Somerville (Over Here), Gabriel Basso (Ghost Town) and guest stars Cynthia Nixon (Sex And The City), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Liam Neeson (Schindler's List), Brian Cox (The Borne Identity), Idris Elba (The Wire) and Reid Scott (American Dream).
