My Granny the Escorts is a frank, intimate and revealing portrait of three of Britain’s mature escorts – older women who choose to sell sex from hotel rooms and their homes – and all completely legally. As well as topping up their pensions, all of these women seem to be enjoying themselves in their chosen and often new profession, but the film also questions how such a lifestyle can co-exist with their family lives and their roles as mothers and grandparents. Their clients are men of all ages, sometimes as young as 20, but what is the motivation behind some men’s desire to have sex with older women?

Authored by 33-year-old BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Charlie Russell, this is an intimate portrait of extraordinary, exuberant and uninhibited grandmothers, that ultimately questions how we feel about sex and age – especially when combined with the oldest profession of them all.

Sheila, 84, has been happily married twice and outlived both of her husbands. She only decided to become an escort 4 years ago – she says because she loves sex. But a recent operation has made Sheila reconsider how long she can continue in the job; and a falling-out with her family means her choice of profession is not without cost.

Beverley, 64, has been escorting from her quiet suburban home for the last 25 years having been left penniless by her ex-husband. Beverley never judges her clients, no matter how strange their requests are – and over the years there’s nothing Beverley hasn’t been asked to do. But in the 25 years she’s been working, she has not had one ‘normal’ relationship. We join Beverley as she considers her future.

Sophie, 57, has recently moved to an isolated rural community to work full time as a mature escort seven days a week. Having turned her back on her former life as a conventional mother of two, will Sophie’s new life of non-stop sex be everything she’s looking for?

With remarkable access to these women – as well as the men who choose to return to mature escorts time and time again – this warm and eye-opening film takes a journey into the world of three grandmothers you’ll never forget.
