All 4 announces festive film selection for all the family

From Jimmy Stewart to Ewan McGregor, Danny Boyle to Steve McQueen, John Wick to Frances Ha, Mike Leigh to Lynn Shelton, and Spider-Man to Sonic the Hedgehog, All 4 have your festive film needs covered for all the family this Christmas.

To coincide with Spider-Man: No Way Home swinging into cinemas, All 4 has the most recent entry in the Spider-canon, the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Other animated treats for younger family members include How To Train Your Dragon and Wonder Park, while films for all the family to enjoy together include firefighter comedy Playing With Fire, Dora and The Lost City of Gold, Sonic The Hedgehog, Disney’s classic Flight of The Navigator and Terry Gilliam’s all-star, time travel adventure Time Bandits.

Grown up dramas for when younger family members have retreated to bed include the third instalment of Keanu Reeves’ popular hitman franchise John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. To coincide with the cinema release of The King’s Man, Taron Egerton and Channing Tatum lead the second instalment of Matthew Vaughn’s secret agent action franchise Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Sienna Miller plays against type as a woman raising her young grandson after her daughter goes missing in American Woman. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks lead Steven Spielberg’s true-crime conman drama Catch Me if You Can. While for comedy fans, Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne star in adoption comedy-drama Instant Family, Marc Maron leads the cast of the late Lynn Shelton’s final movie Sword of Trust, Wes Anderson directs an all-star voice cast in the animated Isle of Dogs, while Greta Gerwig dances her way through New York in her breakthrough role in Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha.

For fans of international cinema, the star attraction will be Bong Joon Ho’s 2020 Oscar Best Picture winner Parasite. Bruno Ganz and Peter Falk star in Wim Wenders’ 1987 tale of a Berlin-bound angel in Wings of Desire. India is represented by one of Satyajit Ray’s best-loved films, Mahanagar (The Big City). The multi-award winning Monos depicts an unconventional family of teenage commandos, training by day and partying by night in the mountains and jungle of Colombia. Pablo Larrain, whose Spencer is currently in cinemas, represents Chile with his most recent film in his native country and language, Ema. We have a double bill of films from prolific Japanese auteur Takashi Miike: samurai tale Blade of The Immortal and drug smuggling thriller First Love. And a journalist turns the tables on her social media trolls in timely, Dutch, darkly comic thriller The Columnist.

Film4 Productions are represented by some of our best-loved films, including Danny Boyle’s seminal Trainspotting and multi-Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, plus a pair of dark, cult classics in Shane Meadows’ Dead Man’s Shoes and Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers. More recent Film4 Productions available to view include Steve McQueen’s Widows, Scottish country & western tale Wild Rose featuring a star-making performance by Jessie Buckley, and Neil Gaiman-adaptation How To Talk To Girls at Parties, as well as both Inbetweeners movies.

To coincide with his career retrospective at the BFI, All 4 will also host a slice of films from director Mike Leigh, encompassing his four most recent films Peterloo, Oscar nominees Mr. Turner, Another Year and Happy-Go-Lucky, plus Career Girls which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2022.

With Mothering Sunday currently in cinemas, another Graham Swift adaptation leads our celebration of British cinema gems, Last Orders starring Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins, Tom Courtenay and Helen Mirren. With Mark Jenkin’s eagerly awaited Film4-backed follow-up Enys Men due in 2022, we offer another chance to see the critically acclaimed Bait. Departure, Daphne and Animals showcase some of the UK’s fastest rising young stars on camera in the shape of Alex Lawther, Emily Beecham and Holliday Grainger respectively. There’s also the classic 1954 animated adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. And for those looking for a cricketing alternative to the Ashes, there is Freddie Young’s 1984 comedy-drama Arthur’s Hallowed Ground.

While for those wanting Christmas onscreen as well as off, Jimmy Stewart stars in festive classic It’s A Wonderful Life, leading a slice of Christmas films that includes more modern titles Christmas At Grand Valley, Christmas in Rome, Christmas in Love and Homegrown Christmas.

The dates and length of time films appear on the platform will vary according to their Film4 or Channel 4 TX date, and according to individual licence agreements. All films listed will be available on All 4 for minimum seven days, most extend into January.
