Gordon Ramsay is back on 4 with a brand new series that seeks out the very best British restaurants up and down the country. From John O'Groats to Land's End, diners have nominated thousands of restaurants as their favourite local eatery. Chef Ramsay sets out to put their culinary skills to the test before finally crowning the best of the best.

Across eight heats Gordon puts two restaurants from different cuisines - from Italian and French to Chinese - head to head to really test their mettle. Will their food be able to stand a series of rigorous tests? Can the chefs cope cooking under Gordon's watch and in a kitchen that's not their own? And how will they fare under the glare of the cameras?

Secret diners check out the daily operations of each restaurant and scrutinise the standard of cuisine before the chefs are invited to London for a showdown at one of Gordon's flagship restaurants.

While the restaurateurs perfect their finest menus and wrestle with the pressure of taking over Gordon's kitchen, Gordon shows them how it's done as he presents some of his own favourite recipes from that region of the world. At the end of every heat, after testing the restaurants' food and service to breaking point, Gordon chooses a winner.

The victors from each heat then compete in the semi-finals, where the challenges get even bigger and more demanding. Finally, the best two go head to head in the grand final, competing to be crowned Ramsay's Best Restaurant.
