RDF West Heads to the Outback for Channel 4 Series
Category: News ReleaseRDF West (part of RDF, a Banijay UK company) has been commissioned to produce a six-part series for Channel 4 in which a group of adventurous young backpacking Brits will be transported to the Australian Outback to do farm work in one of the most extreme regions.
Outback Brits cameras will follow the group as they live and work together, capturing every moment of their new lives as they work hard on the farms by day and let loose at night.
From the moment they arrive, the 12 backpackers will be thrown straight into the deep end, expected to handle everything from sheep shearing to harvesting crops and operating heavy-duty machinery.
Charting the highs and lows of life working on the farm, the series will capture the parties, first loves and adventures across the Outback as well as the lows – including homesickness and hardcore manual labour.
And if that wasn’t tough enough, each one will be battling against the constant looming threat of losing their place if the farmers don’t think they’re up to the job. So if they don’t knuckle down and get the job done they could be on the first flight home!
Jo Scarratt-Jones, Managing Director, RDF West said:
“It’s a real rite of passage to do your time on the farms in Australia, and our group are in for a rollercoaster ride with every moment of this once in a lifetime experience captured on camera. Viewers can expect drama, jeopardy, laughs and tears and we can’t wait for audiences to see what our backpackers get up to. This is no holiday!”
Anna Miralis, Senior Commissioning Editor added: “What could be better than offering up the incredible opportunity to live and work in my home country? The series is guaranteed to be an outstanding, incredibly challenging and a rich adventure in one of the most beautiful parts of the Outback. I’m in no doubt this will be a life changing experience for our young, dynamic and fearless Brits as they grab the farm work by the horns and grapple with the numerous tasks set before them.”
Outback Brits (w/t) (6 x 60) was commissioned by Anna Miralis for Channel 4. The executive producers for RDF West are Jo Scarratt-Jones and Sebastian Grant.
