In a relationship: E4 and Jane The Virgin are official
Category: News Release
E4 has today declared its honourable intentions for Jane The Virgin, its latest US acquisition. The comedy series acquired from CBS Studios International has already achieved critical acclaim since being introduced at the annual May screenings. It is due to air in 2015 on E4 following a premiere on the CW Television in the US this October.
The series centres on the ambitious young Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez, Filly Brown, The Bold and the Beautiful) who, in the middle of studying to become a teacher and holding down a job in a fashionable new Miami hotel, gets proposed to by her long term boyfriend, Michael (Brett Dier, Ravenswood). A meticulous planner, Jane intends to only lose her virginity after they are married based on the advice her grandmother gave her when she was a little girl. However, Jane’s life quickly becomes reminiscent of the telenovas she has grown up with when she is accidently inseminated during a routine check-up. How will Jane explain her mystery pregnancy to her family and friends?
Of the acquisition, Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer, Jay Hunt said: “Jane The Virgin feels genuinely innovative and fresh and I’m thrilled it will be joining the stellar line up of acquired shows on E4.”
With Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President, Europe for CBS Studios International adding: ‘Jane The Virgin was one of the most talked-about comedies at LA Screening this year, and we are delighted to be working with Channel 4 to bring this fresh new series to E4’s young audience.’ The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television, in association with Electus. The series is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
