Principal photography begins today on the new 10 x 60" sixth series of Skins (July 21, 2011)
E4's multi BAFTA award-winning drama Skins launches into a sixth series. The gang returns in style, burning their way through a new term at Roundview as new friendships, secret relationships and sexual awakening complicate their already messy lives. Caught between past and present, the bonds between them are tested as they learn what it really means to be a friend, a lover, an adult.
Camilla Campbell, Channel 4 Head of Drama says, "I am delighted that the sixth series of Skins is now underway. Having set up this new set of characters in the previous series, we can now go into more depth as to where their stories take us. With moral ambiguity, high drama, as well as a strong dose of comedy, Skins six will not disappoint."
John Griffin, Executive Producer added, "We're hugely excited about the fantastic mix of writers we have for Skins this year, some of whom are first time screen writers. They‘ve spent the past few months developing exciting and challenging stories for our characters and as filming gets underway we're all very excited to see them realised onto to the screen."
Series six will continue to be written by a unique team of young British writers and teen contributors. Danny Brocklehurst (Shameless, Exile) joins the writing team along with Jack Lothian (Ashes to Ashes, Beaver Falls), Skins novelist Jess Brittain and new young writer Laura Hunter. Directors confirmed are Jack Clough and Oscar nominated director Ian Barns (Wish 143).
The new series is produced by Toby Welsh and Neil Duncan and executive produced by John Griffin, Charlie Pattinson, George Faber with series creator Bryan Elsley.
The 10 episode series will shoot in Bristol from July to December to transmit early 2012 on E4.
Skins is made by Company Pictures and Stormdog Films for E4.
